Racing Cars – Bring On The Night(1978)

Biography
Racing Cars are a Welsh pop band, formed in the Rhondda Valleys, Wales in 1973. They were signed to one of the biggest British record labels of the time, Chrysalis Records.[2] Racing Cars’s debut album yielded their only hit single with “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” It reached number fourteen in the UK Singles Chart in 1977, and was inspired by the film, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? Touring to promote their debut releases, Racing Cars backed Bad Company in 1976, including dates at Earls Court and the York Theatre Royal. Without any similar further chart appearances, Racing Cars ultimately acquired the dreaded one hit wonder label. However, the band was sufficiently established on the touring circuit to issue two further albums which included bit parts for the session pianist Geraint Watkins; American saxophonist Jerry Jumonville; The Bowles Brothers Band (on vocal harmonies); and Ray Ennis from Newport who had previously played with a band called Good Habit. Album & Cover

This cover came from a piece of publicity that Thames TV(now gone) wanted in 1977 for a thirteen part series about the pop group The Beatles. It was to be called ‘The Beatles Story’ and the publicity was directed personally at the Beatles. Therefore a folio of original designs illustrating the thirteen programmes was designed in collaboration with George Hardie. One of the designs was used for this cover refers to the time they were involved with the Maharashi, finding their path, seeing the light, and finding a mystical and philosophical route to internal peace…The light path on the cover is achieved in the printing process by leaving out one of the two primary colours in the prescribed area.

Another of the images from this folio, the eight stages of ‘Beatlemania’ is used as the heading graphic for this website.
